captiongenerator.co ("we") is operated by Caption Generator Co. This policy explains what we collect and why. Contact: support@captiongenerator.co.
Your videos stay on your device
Videos you open are processed entirely in your web browser. We never upload, store or view your video files. Rendering captioned videos also happens on your device.
Audio sent for transcription
To create captions, your browser extracts a compressed audio track and sends it to us, and we pass it to a speech-to-text provider (currently Groq, with AssemblyAI as a backup). We don't store the audio or the resulting transcript on our servers; the transcript is returned to your browser. Providers process the audio under their own terms and data-retention policies.
What we collect
- Account data (if you sign in): email and name via our authentication provider, Clerk.
- Billing data (if you pay): handled by Stripe. We never see or store full card details.
- Usage data: transcription minutes used, and a salted hash of your IP address to enforce free-plan limits. We don't store raw IP addresses.
- Email (if you provide it before a free export): used to send product updates and tips. Unsubscribe anytime.
- Analytics: privacy-friendly product analytics (OpenPanel) about page views and feature usage, without advertising trackers.
- Bot protection: Cloudflare Turnstile may process browser signals to confirm you're human.
Service providers
Clerk (authentication), Convex (database), Stripe (payments), Groq and AssemblyAI (speech-to-text), Resend (email), Cloudflare (bot protection), OpenPanel (analytics) and Vercel (hosting).
Your rights
You can request access to or deletion of your account data at any time by emailing support@captiongenerator.co. Deleting your account removes your usage history and email from our systems.

We'll update this page if our practices change, and change the date above.
